Support Adaptive Riding with the Therapeutic Riding Center as a Side-Walker

Therapeutic Riding Center invites community members to "Join the Crew" at their Los Angeles location to support life-changing adaptive riding lessons. Volunteers in this role work under the direct guidance of PATH-certified instructors to assist riders with disabilities. The main responsibilities include acting as a side-walker—walking alongside the student to provide physical and emotional stability—or as a horse leader, ensuring the horse remains calm and steady throughout the lesson. By committing to a regular weekly shift during the Spring session, volunteers help students build confidence and develop a unique bond with their equine partners. They look for dedicated individuals who can handle a strenuous outdoor environment. Volunteers must be able to stand for at least one hour at a time and walk on uneven ground. While no prior horse experience is necessary, they require attendance at a mandatory monthly training session to ensure the safety and success of the students and horses.
