Volunteer at Ahead With Horses’ Garden Landscaping Party!

Ahead With Horses is looking for volunteers to help at their other location with landscaping, watering, planting, and weed clearance. This is very important for fire safety. YOU MUST SIGN UP BY 4:00PM ON SATURDAY, THE DAY PRIOR, IN ORDER TO CONFIRM THAT THEY WILL BE THERE. (If they do not have anyone signed up by that time, there is no guarantee that they will still be having the opportunity.) Their dress code requires you to wear closed-toe shoes and long pants for safety reasons. They also recommend bringing plenty of water. If you have your own gloves or tools, please bring them with you. They will have some if needed. A reminder that they always require volunteers to be 12 and older.

Explore Local Habitats with the Los Angeles Audubon Society at the Kenneth Hahn Bird Walk

Los Angeles Audubon Society invites nature enthusiasts of all skill levels to explore the diverse habitats of the Baldwin Hills during this guided morning bird walk. Led by experienced naturalists Ann and Eric Brooks, the group traverses landscaped parklands, a man-made lake, and restored areas of Coastal Sage Scrub. Participants have the opportunity to spot a variety of resident species, including Black Phoebes, Cassin’s Kingbirds, California and Spotted Towhees, and various hawks such as the Red-tailed and Cooper's Hawk. This walk is an excellent introduction to local birdlife and provides a way for community members to enjoy the outdoors while learning about the natural history and behaviors of the birds that call Los Angeles home.

Join Friends of LA River for Their Earth Month Celebration

Celebrate Earth Month by joining the Friends of the LA River for an expanded edition of their signature Habitat Restoration Day. In partnership with the California Native Plant Society and the San Fernando Valley Audubon Society, this event offers a day dedicated to community stewardship and local conservation. Participants can enjoy food trucks and connect with various community partners while contributing to a cleaner environment through a litter cleanup. As part of the restoration efforts, volunteers will get their hands in the soil to pull invasive species, plant native flora, and roll seedballs to scatter across the Basin. Additionally, attendees can explore the local ecosystem on guided nature walks around the Nature Reserve with binoculars provided.
