Volunteers are vital to the success of their program and they truly appreciate your willingness to help them work toward their mission of helping their students achieve success through their equine vaulting program. What will volunteers do? There's a variety of tasks that volunteers may be asked to do: Side walking/spotting during lessons, Leading horses during lessons, Grooming horses, Cleaning stalls, Landscaping/gardening, General ranch work, Assisting with office work. What will volunteers need to bring or wear? Closed toed shoes, long pants, and a shirt with sleeves (T-shirts are fine; no tank tops) are required. A hat is recommended on sunny days. They recommend bringing plenty of water. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old. Therapeutic Riding Center invites community members to "Join the Crew" at their Los Angeles location to support life-changing adaptive riding lessons. Volunteers in this role work under the direct guidance of PATH-certified instructors to assist riders with disabilities. The main responsibilities include acting as a side-walker—walking alongside the student to provide physical and emotional stability—or as a horse leader, ensuring the horse remains calm and steady throughout the lesson. By committing to a regular weekly shift during the Spring session, volunteers help students build confidence and develop a unique bond with their equine partners. They look for dedicated individuals who can handle a strenuous outdoor environment. Volunteers must be able to stand for at least one hour at a time and walk on uneven ground. While no prior horse experience is necessary, they require attendance at a mandatory monthly training session to ensure the safety and success of the students and horses.
