Foster a Dog wiith NKLA
By opening your home to an animal in need, NKLA -Best Friends able to rescue another at-risk animal from the shelter. They're center has a set capacity for kennels, so fostering is crucial in their life saving efforts. Additionally, your observations of the dog's behavior out of the kennel can offer valuable insights for potential adopters. Their team will match you with a dog that most suits your abilities and home environment. They’ll also take into consideration if you have other pets at home and if you have the capacity to keep them separate. When you become a foster, you offer the space and time to care for the pet, and they provide all the supplies you will need, including food and medical assistance for the animal during their stay with you. You must be at least 18 years old to participate in our foster program. If you are under 18, you are welcome to foster alongside a parent or guardian. Please have them complete our foster on-boarding process below. Community Service: Fostering for community service hours is permitted on a case by case basis. Get Involved in Pet Therapy with your Furry Friend at Paws 4 Healing
Paws 4 Healing was founded in September 2003 by a group of experienced Animal-Assisted Therapy teams. Since that time their membership has grown and they now have eight chapters located in southern California. Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) is a goal-directed intervention in which an animal that meets specific criteria is an integral part of the treatment process. AAT is directed and/or delivered by a health/human service professional with specialized expertise, and within the scope of practice of his/her profession. AAT is designed to promote improvement in human physical, social, emotional, and/or cognitive functioning. AAT is provided in a variety of settings and may be group or individual in nature. All AAT interventions are documented and evaluated for their effectiveness.
Deliver Pet Food to Homebound Clients with PAWS/LA
Volunteers visit their office to pick up pet food and deliver it to home bound clients in their neighborhood. You must have a healthy back and be capable of lifting as much as 40 lbs. In addition, you must have a valid California driver's license and current automobile insurance. Great for families!
Volunteer to Staff the PAWS/LA Pet Food Bank
Come on down to the PAWS/LA Pet Food Bank in Downtown Los Angeles and help distribute pet food and supplies to clients.
Help in the Office with PAWS/LA
PAWS/LA needs help with filing, data input; envelope stuffing and various other office related tasks. Office volunteer hours are from 10:00am to 1:00pm and from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Volunteers can sign up for a regular weekly shift or come in on an “as available” basis.

For creative types with photography, graphic design or writing skills, creating social media posts or articles for their blog is a great way to volunteer remotely. For those with video production experience, they sometimes need camera people, P.A.s and/or editors to help in the field.

Help PAWS/LA Transport Animals to Vet Appointments
Volunteers are needed to pick up and deliver pets to veterinary appointments. You must have a valid California driver’s license and current liability insurance. This volunteer opportunity will usually require a round trip.
Help Walk a Dog with PAWS/LA
Occasionally a client will become too ill to walk his/her dog and will need help. Dog-walking assignments are given to volunteers who live in the immediate vicinity of the client. If no volunteer is available, we will find a volunteer as close as possible. This assignment is on an "as needed" basis.
Volunteer to Help Pick Up Donated Products with PAWS/LA
PAWS/LA will occasionally receive donations of pet food and other related items that need to be picked up and brought to their warehouse. Let them know if you have a van, truck or SUV.
Help By Connecting PAWS/LA to Resources
Believe it or not, one extremely important volunteer opportunity exists for people with connections. Do you know a vet or a groomer or kennel that would provide PAWS/LA with free or low cost services? How about connections to pet food sources, flea products, toys, treats or collars and leashes? Perhaps you know people who might be interested in making financial donations to their organization. They can always use new sources for funding.

Project Minnie is run 100% by volunteers, so they are crucial to their organization. PROJECT MINNIE is always in need of caring people who can pack food, make sandwiches, help distribute supplies and photograph the animals on the boardwalk. They also need folks who will generously donate their time and expertise for specialized tasks including legal advice, grant writing, newsletter writing, graphic design and public relations. No previous experience with horses or disabilities is necessary – you will be taught everything you need to know.Volunteer Responsibilities: They need volunteers to walk beside riders with disabilities, groom, tack, or lead horses. They also need volunteers to help keep their barn clean, feed the horses, and help at their annual events such as the CALNET Horse Show and fundraisers.
