Volunteer to Lead Horses During Lessons, Clean Stalls, Groom Horses with AHEAD With Horses Inc
Volunteers are vital to the success of their program and they truly appreciate your willingness to help them work toward their mission of helping their students achieve success through their equine vaulting program. What will volunteers do? There's a variety of tasks that volunteers may be asked to do: Side walking/spotting during lessons, Leading horses during lessons, Grooming horses, Cleaning stalls, Landscaping/gardening, General ranch work, Assisting with office work. What will volunteers need to bring or wear? Closed toed shoes, long pants, and a shirt with sleeves (T-shirts are fine; no tank tops) are required. A hat is recommended on sunny days. They recommend bringing plenty of water. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old. All volunteers must sign a liability release form once a year; please click here to take care of that now (if under 18, must be signed by a parent/guardian). Some horse experience is preferred, especially for certain tasks. If you are registering guests along with yourself, each volunteer still needs to complete the liability release form. Support Adaptive Riding with the Therapeutic Riding Center as a Side-Walker
Therapeutic Riding Center invites community members to "Join the Crew" at their Los Angeles location to support life-changing adaptive riding lessons. Volunteers in this role work under the direct guidance of PATH-certified instructors to assist riders with disabilities. The main responsibilities include acting as a side-walker—walking alongside the student to provide physical and emotional stability—or as a horse leader, ensuring the horse remains calm and steady throughout the lesson. By committing to a regular weekly shift during the Spring session, volunteers help students build confidence and develop a unique bond with their equine partners. They look for dedicated individuals who can handle a strenuous outdoor environment. Volunteers must be able to stand for at least one hour at a time and walk on uneven ground. While no prior horse experience is necessary, they require attendance at a mandatory monthly training session to ensure the safety and success of the students and horses. Must be at least 14 years old
Have An Adventure With An Adoptable Dog at Dog’s Day Out from OC Animal Care
OC Animal Care’s Dog’s Day Out program gives volunteers and the community the opportunity to take a dog off campus for a fun activity outside of the shelter. These field trips provide our dogs exposure to new adventures, help them relax, show off their true personalities, and connect with potential adopters all while giving participants a meaningful experience. The program helps socialize dogs and makes them more adoptable when they return to the shelter. Protect Wild Habitats with Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy’s Rapid Response Team
The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is the only nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the Peninsula’s natural lands, rare wildlife and coastal beauty for the benefit of its communities. The Conservancy is committed to protecting and restoring the Peninsula’s unique local habitats that sustain rare and endangered species, including helping to lead the recovery of the endangered Palos Verdes Blue Butterfly, which is found only on the Palos Verdes Peninsula and was once thought extinct. The Rapid Response Teams protect important wildlife habitat by helping to close unauthorized trails through trail maintenance, installing signage, fences and more. Join the Sunshine Preserve Habitat Restoration at Arroyos and Foothills Conservancy
Join AFC and the Friends of Sunshine at the Sunshine Preserve in Glendale! Help maintain Sunshine as a sanctuary for biodiversity. Restoration tasks can range from removing invasive species, planting native ones, watering, sheet mulching, and more. Please bring water, sunscreen, and work gloves. They recommend wearing pants, long sleeves, and sturdy shoes. If available, feel free to bring any of the following tools: shovel, hand pruner, or trowel. Other tools and equipment will be available. Volunteers meet at Sunshine Preserve, near 1370 Sunshine Drive. Street parking is available on Sunshine Drive before Sandringham. Restoration is led by Christopher Smee. Join Friends of LA River for Their Earth Month Celebration
Celebrate Earth Month by joining the Friends of the LA River for an expanded edition of their signature Habitat Restoration Day. In partnership with the California Native Plant Society and the San Fernando Valley Audubon Society, this event offers a day dedicated to community stewardship and local conservation. Participants can enjoy food trucks and connect with various community partners while contributing to a cleaner environment through a litter cleanup. As part of the restoration efforts, volunteers will get their hands in the soil to pull invasive species, plant native flora, and roll seedballs to scatter across the Basin. Additionally, attendees can explore the local ecosystem on guided nature walks around the Nature Reserve with binoculars provided.
Join April’s Nothin But Sand Beach Clean Up with Heal The Bay
Heal the Bay are amping up their signature monthly cleanup for a massive Earth Month celebration at Santa Monica Beach. Volunteers will join hundreds of others to remove marine debris from the shoreline, helping to prevent plastic pollution from entering the Santa Monica Bay. They provide all necessary supplies like buckets and gloves, though they encourage a zero-waste approach by inviting participants to bring their own reusable gear.
Explore Local Conservation with Heal the Bay at the Earth Month Expo Hub
Heal the Bay is hosting an on-the-sand Expo Hub to connect the community with the broader world of local conservation. This interactive space features various environmental partners, sustainable brands, and community organizations offering resources and activations. They invite visitors to explore exhibits on climate resilience and the circular economy while enjoying the festive Earth Month atmosphere right on the beach. They provide an educational marketplace where attendees can learn about advocacy, local wildlife, and sustainable living.
