Volunteer to Lead Horses During Lessons, Clean Stalls, Groom Horses with AHEAD With Horses Inc

Volunteers are vital to the success of their program and they truly appreciate your willingness to help them work toward their mission of helping their students achieve success through their equine vaulting program. What will volunteers do? There's a variety of tasks that volunteers may be asked to do: Side walking/spotting during lessons, Leading horses during lessons, Grooming horses, Cleaning stalls, Landscaping/gardening, General ranch work, Assisting with office work. What will volunteers need to bring or wear? Closed toed shoes, long pants, and a shirt with sleeves (T-shirts are fine; no tank tops) are required. A hat is recommended on sunny days. They recommend bringing plenty of water. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old. All volunteers must sign a liability release form once a year; please click here to take care of that now (if under 18, must be signed by a parent/guardian). Some horse experience is preferred, especially for certain tasks. If you are registering guests along with yourself, each volunteer still needs to complete the liability release form. Join the Sunshine Preserve Habitat Restoration at Arroyos and Foothills Conservancy

Join AFC and the Friends of Sunshine at the Sunshine Preserve in Glendale! Help maintain Sunshine as a sanctuary for biodiversity. Restoration tasks can range from removing invasive species, planting native ones, watering, sheet mulching, and more. Please bring water, sunscreen, and work gloves. They recommend wearing pants, long sleeves, and sturdy shoes. If available, feel free to bring any of the following tools: shovel, hand pruner, or trowel. Other tools and equipment will be available.⁠ Volunteers meet at Sunshine Preserve, near 1370 Sunshine Drive. Street parking is available on Sunshine Drive before Sandringham. Join April’s Nothin But Sand Beach Clean Up with Heal The Bay

Heal the Bay are amping up their signature monthly cleanup for a massive Earth Month celebration at Santa Monica Beach. Volunteers will join hundreds of others to remove marine debris from the shoreline, helping to prevent plastic pollution from entering the Santa Monica Bay. They provide all necessary supplies like buckets and gloves, though they encourage a zero-waste approach by inviting participants to bring their own reusable gear.

Explore Local Conservation with Heal the Bay at the Earth Month Expo Hub

Heal the Bay is hosting an on-the-sand Expo Hub to connect the community with the broader world of local conservation. This interactive space features various environmental partners, sustainable brands, and community organizations offering resources and activations. They invite visitors to explore exhibits on climate resilience and the circular economy while enjoying the festive Earth Month atmosphere right on the beach. They provide an educational marketplace where attendees can learn about advocacy, local wildlife, and sustainable living. Master Ocean Advocacy with Heal the Bay at the Education Talk Tent

Protect Wild Habitats with Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy’s Rapid Response Team

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy is the only nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the Peninsula’s natural lands, rare wildlife and coastal beauty for the benefit of its communities. The Conservancy is committed to protecting and restoring the Peninsula’s unique local habitats that sustain rare and endangered species, including helping to lead the recovery of the endangered Palos Verdes Blue Butterfly, which is found only on the Palos Verdes Peninsula and was once thought extinct. The Rapid Response Teams protect important wildlife habitat by helping to close unauthorized trails through trail maintenance, installing signage, fences and more. Volunteer at Ahead With Horses’ Garden Landscaping Party!

Ahead With Horses is looking for volunteers to help at their other location with landscaping, watering, planting, and weed clearance. This is very important for fire safety. YOU MUST SIGN UP BY 4:00PM ON SATURDAY, THE DAY PRIOR, IN ORDER TO CONFIRM THAT THEY WILL BE THERE. (If they do not have anyone signed up by that time, there is no guarantee that they will still be having the opportunity.) Their dress code requires you to wear closed-toe shoes and long pants for safety reasons. They also recommend bringing plenty of water. If you have your own gloves or tools, please bring them with you. They will have some if needed. A reminder that they always require volunteers to be 12 and older.

Visit the Rosemont Preserve Open Gate at Arroyos and Foothills Conservancy

Spend your Sunday afternoon at the Rosemont Preserve! Enjoy the serene environment of Rosemont Preserve – wander through trails lined with native plants or spend some quiet contemplative time under the beautiful Oak and Sycamore trees. Friends of the Rosemont Preserve Committee members will be available to answer questions and show you this community resource we have worked so hard to protect. Please wear sturdy shoes to walk the trail and bring water. The Preserve is located in La Crescenta at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. Parking is available at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave, where bathrooms are located. No RSVP required to attend.

Help Retired Farm Animals at The Gentle Barn

At The Gentle Barn, they save the lives of animals who are too old, sick, scared, or injured to be adopted, and who would otherwise be euthanized. They give the animals sanctuary with us, and when they are ready, partner with them to help people suffering from the same stories of trauma, and connect people to the love and magic of animals. The Gentle Barn is host to foster agencies, drug and alcohol rehab centers, war veteran centers, domestic violence shelters, homeless shelters, children’s hospitals, burn centers, and individuals suffering from depression, anxiety, and grief. They are looking for outgoing, motivated, and consistent people to join our volunteer team! Applicants must be 14 years or older.
