OC Animal Care’s Dog’s Day Out program gives volunteers and the community the opportunity to take a dog off campus for a fun activity outside of the shelter. These field trips provide our dogs exposure to new adventures, help them relax, show off their true personalities, and connect with potential adopters all while giving participants a meaningful experience. The program helps socialize dogs and makes them more adoptable when they return to the shelter. Adopt a Cute Little Fur Baby in Need of Love at North Redeondo Beach Petco every Saturday with A Cat’s Tale
Weekly adoptions held at North Redondo Beach Petco. Most cats end up homeless because their former owners did not understand or plan for the long- term commitment of owning a companion animal. In an effort to make sure cats finds their forever home each of their adoption begins with an adoption application/interview and sometimes a home visit. They take the time to make sure that they are matching potential adopter’s with a cat that will fit their lifestyle and vise versa. All animals are spayed/neutered, tested for FIV/FeLV, vaccinated, micro-chipped, and additional care is provided as needed to ensure the health of each animal. Each adopted cat or kitten also comes with a free vet visit. It is their policy to require an adoption fee that helps to cover medical and routine care of the cats in their care.
Volunteer at Ahead With Horses’ Garden Landscaping Party!
Ahead With Horses is looking for volunteers to help at their other location with landscaping, watering, planting, and weed clearance. This is very important for fire safety. YOU MUST SIGN UP BY 4:00PM ON SATURDAY, THE DAY PRIOR, IN ORDER TO CONFIRM THAT THEY WILL BE THERE. (If they do not have anyone signed up by that time, there is no guarantee that they will still be having the opportunity.) Their dress code requires you to wear closed-toe shoes and long pants for safety reasons. They also recommend bringing plenty of water. If you have your own gloves or tools, please bring them with you. They will have some if needed. A reminder that they always require volunteers to be 12 and older.
Join the Sycamore Canyon Restoration at Arroyos and Foothils Conservancy
Join AFC at Sycamore Canyon in Glendale! They're working to make this corridor more inviting and healthy for wildlife. Restoration tasks can range from removing invasive species, mulching, and more. Please bring water, sunscreen, and work gloves. They recommend wearing pants, long sleeves, and sturdy shoes. If available, feel free to bring any of the following tools: shovel, loppers, or trowel. Other tools and equipment will be available. The entrance to the Preserve is near 2833 E Chevy Chase Drive. Street parking available. Restoration is led by Tim Martinez. Los Angeles Audubon Society offers an immersive outdoor experience at the Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve during their monthly "Open Wetlands" event. Their team of volunteers and naturalists guides visitors through the salt marsh to observe local bird species through high-powered scopes and examine aquatic invertebrates under microscopes. They provide binoculars for guests to use as they explore this rare coastal habitat, fostering a deeper understanding of bird conservation and the importance of protecting Los Angeles' remaining wetlands.
Explore Local Habitats with the Los Angeles Audubon Society at the Kenneth Hahn Bird Walk
Los Angeles Audubon Society invites nature enthusiasts of all skill levels to explore the diverse habitats of the Baldwin Hills during this guided morning bird walk. Led by experienced naturalists Ann and Eric Brooks, the group traverses landscaped parklands, a man-made lake, and restored areas of Coastal Sage Scrub. Participants have the opportunity to spot a variety of resident species, including Black Phoebes, Cassin’s Kingbirds, California and Spotted Towhees, and various hawks such as the Red-tailed and Cooper's Hawk. This walk is an excellent introduction to local birdlife and provides a way for community members to enjoy the outdoors while learning about the natural history and behaviors of the birds that call Los Angeles home.
Connect Pets with Families with The Milo Foundation at Mobile Adoption Events
The Milo Foundation bring their adoptable residents directly to the community through a series of mobile adoption events held throughout the month. Volunteers in this role help showcase a select group of dogs and cats—many of whom are currently in foster care—to potential adopters in high-traffic areas. They assist with event setup, handle the animals safely during "meet and greets," and provide information to the public about the foundation's mission to save animals from high-kill shelters. These outreach activities are a critical part of their strategy to find the perfect match for their animals, allowing people to meet and fall in love with their next family member in a relaxed, local setting.
